Degrees and Certifications:
I am a very proud native Phoenician. I grew up at 24th St and Camelback and have very fond memories, family, and friends still in the area. I remember as a child, we would come up to Scottsdale and Bell Roads to do target practice, in the 60’s there was nothing there, other than cactus, quail, snakes, and miles of desert. Relatives would come to visit from the east, we would always bring them to Cave Creek, and I remember thinking, I would love to live up here. Well, years later my wish came to be. I feel very fortunate to live in such a small, caring, well-connected community. I absolutely thrive in our beautiful Sonoran desert lifestyle, though at times in the summer, I do look forward to escaping it.
I went to Camelback High School, Phoenix College, Arizona State University (GO DEVILS!), and then Northern Arizona University for my masters. I have taught for 20 years, my first 10 years were at Longview Elementary in central Phoenix. And the most recent 10 years have been in Cave Creek in 3rd, 2-3 mulitiage, and I have taught 5th grade at BMES for many years. This year I am very excited to be teaching science and social studies. There is no greater joy in life as a teacher than watching a student turn their wheels, work hard, and then watch their eyes light up. The self-confidence that is demonstrated by my students every day is why I do what I do.
I have a wonderful 20-year-old daughter who is a Cactus Shadows graduate and is a sophomore at PVCC this year. I am going to get in trouble for this but, I call her my "sunshine spreader" because she has this innate ability of spreading joy wherever she goes and sharing it with whomever she comes in contact with. We also have a 4 year old lab who is the other joy in both of our lives.
Many of the activities I enjoy are cooking, golfing, hiking, mountain biking, traveling, and just enjoying nature with family and great friends.
