I am excited about the 2019-20 school year! This is my sixth year teaching at Black Mountain Elementary School, and I am excited to be moving up to first grade after teaching kindergarten for five years. Prior to coming to BMES I taught kindergarten, first and second grades in California for fourteen years. My husband and I were happy to move back to Arizona, where we both grew up, and where our three grown children had moved, to work and attend school.
After high school, I attended Arizona State University and then transferred to the University of California, San Diego, where I received my Bachelor's Degree in Communications/Visual Arts, with a film/video specialty and a minor in Children's Literature. After working in the film/video industry for a few years in Los Angeles, where I met and married my husband, I returned to school and received a teaching credential and Masters of Education Degree from California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks. I then realized that teaching was what I loved to do most, particularly in the primary grades.
In my free time I like to read, play games, travel, camp, fish, and hike, with my husband and family. I enjoy spending time at the family farm in the Wellton-Mohawk Valley, or up in the White Mountains at our cabin.
I am looking forward to an exciting year of discovery and growth with my first grade students! My desire is to provide a safe, nurturing environment, where students will continue their quest to become life-long learners.
