Dr. Debbi Burdick's Vodcast
Script for the March, 2020 Vodcast
March Vodcast 2020
Hello, I am Debbi Burdick, the very proud superintendent of the Cave Creek Unified School District. This school year, I am focusing my vodcasts on our schools and departments as we always have exciting updates to share.
This month, I am highlighting Cactus Shadows High School. In CCUSD, as a one high school district, we consider CSHS our Flagship and look forward to all of our students eventually becoming a Falcon. CSHS has close to 1900 students and I like to tell parents that it has something for everyone. No matter what the academic level or the interest, our students should be able to find a perfect fit.
For our students looking for rigor and a challenge, we have the International Baccalaureate Programme (IB)—a comprehensive Diploma Program that allows entry into prestigious colleges and universities all over the world. An additional alternative to IB for students is taking rigorous Advanced Placement or AP Courses. Both IB and AP have an end of course exam that with a passing score, allows students to “place out” of the course in college but amass the credits for that course. Another option is Early College with our Paradise Valley Community College Campus on 60th Street. For Juniors and Seniors who apply to PVCC, these students go to CSHS in the mornings and PVCC Black Mountain in the afternoon and also get college credit while they are still in high school.
For students interested in industry certifications and various trade programs, Juniors and Seniors may take East Valley of Technology Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses at the EVIT campus in Mesa in the afternoons. CSHS provides bus services. CSHS also has Career and Technical Education or CTE courses on campus in which students may choose to enroll. For students wanting online choices or Credit Recovery, we have Cactus Shadows eLearning—a 60 computer lab facilitated by a certified teacher. For students with learning challenges, we offer comprehensive special education with various levels of supports.
And what would high school be without clubs and sports? CSHS has a long list of clubs driven by student interests as well as sports—many winning regional, state and national recognitions. CSHS is the place to be! CSHS is located at 5802 E. Dove Valley Rd., Scottsdale. To schedule a tour, contact Principal Jim Swetter at 480-575-2401 or email@example.com. Thank you for listening and I look forward to seeing you in our schools!
