Mrs. Kristin Cardin
After 29 years, teaching young children continues to be a passion of mine. This will be my 11th year in the Cave Creek School District, with 9 wonderful years at Black Mountain. I feel lucky to be a part of the Black Mountain community. Most of my career I have taught kindergarten, first, and second graders. I have also enjoyed being a reading teacher, English language learner teacher, and response to intervention coordinator.
My teaching journey began at the University of Northern Iowa, where I received my degree in Elementary Education. I followed in the footsteps of my grandmother, who received her teaching degree when UNI was the Iowa State Normal School. After graduation, I married my amazing husband, R.J. and we moved to Arizona. We fell in love with Arizona. With the exception of three years in Iowa, we have lived here happily ever after. I obtained my Master Degree in Elementary Education from ASU. Our daughter is all grown up now. It is unbelieveable how time flies. It seems like yesterday she was starting kindergarten. With the support of my familiy, peers and BMES community, in 2013 I became a National Board Certified Teacher as an Early Childhood Generalist.
Outside of teaching, I LOVE just hanging out with my family and pets. We have two old labbies, one yellow and one chocolate. I enjoy traveling, reading, movies, theater, nature hikes, and visiting family and friends. I am inspired by beautiful places such as sunsets in the desert and moonbeams on Half Dome at Yosemite.
