Each student has been challenged to read 40 or more books this year.  We call this the 40 Book Challenge.  The challenge is to read a variety of different types of books.  In order to meet this challenge, we read during class time AND students should be reading their independent reading book for at least 20 minutes each night at home.  Not only is reading a skill that takes a lot of practice, it increases vocabulary, improves conversational skills, enhances problem-solving skills and it's fun!!

We will also be reading several books aloud/together as a class.  These books will count toward the 40 Book Challenge!!

The book we are currently reading as a class:

    1. Esperanza Rising, by Pam Munoz Ryan (historical fiction) quarter one

    2. Amal Unbound by Aisha Saeed (realistic fiction) quarter two

    3. The Phantom Tollbooth by Jules Feiffer (fantasy) coming soon!! quarter four
