Mrs. Carrie McCulloch

Little chairs, little people, and big smiles…that is what you will find in this classroom!  Welcome to Developmental K-1 at Desert Sun Academy..

I graduated cum laude from Xavier University in Ohio with a dual degree in elementary and special education, plus my early childhood certification.  Next I completed my master’s degree in educational leadership and my principal certification from NAU with honors. Earning my National Board Certification for Early Childhood was my next accomplishment.  I also was named Cave Creek Teacher of the Year Honoree in 2014. What an honor!

I have been teaching for many moons!!  A suburb of Chicago is my hometown. I began my career teaching fourth graders for two years in Indiana, one year in a gifted and talented program and the other in a traditional fourth grade classroom.  Looking for warmer weather, my husband and I moved out west. Gilbert Unified Schools was my first stop in Arizona, teaching first graders. I then found a home in the Cave Creek Unified School District.  I began a self contained developmental program for kindergarten through second graders at Desert Willow Elementary. The program grew and was moved to Lone Mountain Elementary when it opened in 2002. I later found myself teaching fourth graders and then down to kindergarten at Lone Mountain Elementary. Ready for a change I moved to Scottsdale for a year as an assistant principal. Missing my Cave Creek family, I am back to where it all began as the Developmental K-1 teacher at Desert Sun Academy.

I love being a parent and a teacher in the Cave Creek community. There is never a dull moment with my involvement on campus.  I have a difficult time saying no!

My husband and I have three energetic boys ages seventeen, fifteen and seven.  We also love our two labs. Never a dull moment in our lives!

Parental involvement in a child’s education is one of the strongest indicators of student achievement.  I look forward to working closely with my students and their families on this amazing journey.

Sincerely,

Carrie M. McCulloch
