Carrie Barrett

Welcome Eagles!

My name is Carrie Barrett and I am so excited to be part of the amazing Lone Mountain Elementary School staff and look forward to an amazing year with my 2nd grade students. I was raised in the Chicagoland area and moved to Arizona in 1987. I attended NAU in Flagstaff and I received my BA in Elementary and Special Education in 1992. I also received my Masters degree in Elementary Education in 1999. This is my 20th year teaching at Lone Mountain, 10 years were in 1st grade and this is my 10th year teaching 2nd grade. I also previously taught kindergarten and Special Education and kindergarten for 10 years in the Madison Elementary School District in Phoenix. In my spare time, I love spending time with friends, going to the movies, photography, and going to Disneyland. I am looking forward to an incredible year!

Educational Philosophy

  • I believe that my role as a teacher is to nurture and encourage the lifelong learning of my students. Through hands-on activities, classroom discussion, and fun/humor, I hope to encourage students to think creatively and explore their natural curiosity. I strive to create a warm, welcoming, positive environment, so students feel safe to take risks and express themselves. I want my kids to feel very comfortable and at home in our classroom. I expect all students to treat others with kindness and respect. I use assessments in the classroom on an ongoing basis and use the data from those assessments to plan instruction for my class. We work in class, so the kids will take responsibility for their own learning and have a growth mindset.
