B.S. Psychology M.S. Recreation, Parks and Tourism Administration AZ Teaching Certificate 6-12
Welcome! I'm Mrs. Legro and am a transplant from Wisconsin (Go Packers! Go Bucks! Go Badgers!). After 20+ years of cold, snowy winters, we decided to trade our shovels for sunshine! I have been with the Cave Creek School District for 5 years. I received my Bachelor of Science Degree from University Wisconsin - Stevens Point in Psychology and my Masters of Science from Western Illinois University in Recreational Administration with an emphasis in Adventure/Outdoor Education. My professional career has consisted of grant writing, medical sales, and teaching in many different environments: K-12 classrooms, High and Low Ropes Courses, Medical Institutions and the corporate world.
I'm fortunate to be surrounded by my loving and supportive husband, teenage son, and our incredible dog, Sophia. My son is an 8th grader at STMS and also plays baseball and football for the Jr. Falcons. Occasionally, we foster dogs in need of a forever home. As you may have guessed, I LOVE all creatures, big and small, slimy (yes, even snakes!) and furry. When I'm not in the classroom, I enjoy the outdoors, especially hiking or being on the water. My family also loves any and all adventures, so we try to travel as much as possible. Other passions are living a healthy lifestyle, photography, botany, sports and being a lifelong student.
I spent our first 1.5 years in Cave Creek volunteering at DWES. I instantly fell in love with the culture and people that make DWES feel so much like a family. Once my son entered the 4th grade I decided to become a substitute teacher for CCUSD, and now, here I am, teaching 5th adn 6th grade social studies and science. I LOVE teaching as much as I do learning. I firmly believe all children have the potential to be successful and it's my job to help unlock that potential. This is done through mutliple avenues of teaching (i.e. lecture/notes, games, digital learning, projects, etc.) along with maintaining high expectations for each student.
Sixth grade, more than ever, is a year of change and an avenue to create life-long habits that can lead to a successful future. I look forward to helping each student succeed in their last year at DWES so they can better navigate the coming years of middle and high school.
I strive to demonstrate to students that learning is an ongoing, life-long skill. My classroom is a safe environment where students can feel comfortable asking questions, taking risks and learning from mistakes. Today, students have access to more information than ever, which means many of them may already be experts. My goal is to add to their areas of "expertise" so they are ready to tackle middle school and beyond so they can reach their dreams and continue on their lifelong path of learning.
