• Dear Parents and Students,

CCUSD schools remain closed. There are supplemental education resources for all students, however, teachers are not in the schools and will not be available through March 27th. We are working with the Arizona Department of Education to understand more about school closures and our next steps. In the meantime, you may want to visit the two web pages linked below, one for COVID 19 updates, and one for at-home supplemental education resources. We will continue to provide updates as often as possible. We appreciate your patience during this unprecedented time.

Good Afternoon!  I am very much enjoying spending time with your students as they explore new ideas and skills, concepts and territories.   They have done great work collaborating and expanding and I look forward to continuing this work with them. Thanks again for sending them to Creative Inquiry.

    Unit 3:  Interest + Science =?

As noted in my emails, your students are focusing on the intersection betweeen a topic of interest and a specific Science that intrigues them.  They will be developing their own Driving Questions and allowing that to guide them in their exploration and project development.  Some have zoned in on Biology relating to animal habitats, the human body, neurscoience, vaccinations;  some have zoned in on engineering energry, whether solar, wind, water;  some have cross sectioned their interest in mining and chemistry, cars and matter, architecture and force&motion. They are in the nascent stages of creating this thinking and project vision.

I have inlcuded some pictures as they explored various sciences in Stations.  Lots of fun!

Project Based Learning

  • Project-Based Learning honors the various synapses alive and well in our brains.  With subject matter at the core of our exploration, students will be given great latitude for discovery. As they navigate and create Driving Questions related to various curriculum-related subjects, students will hone and then apply their skills in final, creative, indivudalized unique learning projects.

Project based learning (PBL) will be the style of enrichment for the Creative Inquiry Gifted and Talented program in the Cave Creek Unified School District. Within a PBL classroom, you will see students learning new content through a method that encourages choice, is challenging, and fun! Below are the main goals of the CCUSD's Creative Inquiry Class.

    • Students will work within collaborative groups, learning interdependence with like-minded peers, each bringing their own gifts to the group dynamic.
    • Students investigate, research, and explore real world problems within an area of interest.
    • Students will create a product that provides a solution to the problem, explains the problem with possible solutions, and/or increases awareness of the problem.
    • Students share their solutions with a real world audience.

During the Project-based learning process, the students will practice and strengthen valuable 21st-century skills such as decision making, collaborating, critical thinking, creativity, and innovation.

Typical structures for Projects will include:

    Project Contract and Tentative Calendar
