Educational Philosophy

  • I believe that the most important aspect to teaching math is to communicate the beauty and the simplicity of the subject while valuing the individual student’s learning speed. I believe in believing in every student, that each one has the potential to understand and do the math presented to him or her. I believe that the purpose of teaching is to equip each student with skills and logic to function and thrive in society. As a result of this I want to treat my students with respect and to be as supportive as possible in the learning process while challenging them to discover new ways of thinking and new ideas and principles. I will respect each individual student’s needs within reason of what is possible and what tools are available in the classroom. I will acknowledge that I have as much to learn each year as my students. In my classroom, I hope that students who enjoy mathematics continue to enjoy it and feel challenged, and those who struggled or were afraid of it no longer see it as something to fear and realize that anybody can do math!
