Mr. Tony Vining

It is such a humbling honor to have the opportunity to take the reins at Cactus Shadows and become the new principal.  I wanted to take a short minute to introduce myself and what I am all about.  This is my 22nd year in education all of which were in the Peoria Unified School District.  16 years were at Centennial High School where I taught all levels of English for 14 years and spent two years as a student advisor working with at risk students.  I was also the head girls track coach for 16 years, a varsity assistant for girls’ basketball for 10 years and a varsity football assistant for 4 years.  However, there was a desire to impact students in a positive way on a larger scale which in turn led me to becoming an administrator and even more exciting it was at the high school I attended, Cactus High School.  My first two years there were spent as the athletic director, however my principal understood that I sought out continual growth opportunities and she allowed me to move from the athletic director seat into overseeing curriculum and instruction.  I spent two years in the position and then continued my training in all the areas that assistant principals experience by moving to Raymond S. Kellis High School. I oversaw clubs, attendance, discipline, and the professional development for our school.  All those experiences led me to be ready to take on this role leading this unbelievable school.

I have two boys who are 7 and 11 that are my entire world. They are a continual reminder and driving force for me to provide the best possible learning environment. It is imperative that all our children have an opportunity to be successful in an ever-changing world.  My focus is that Cactus Shadows will continue to rise to those challenges and thrive so much so that it is an educational experience that is sought out by families throughout the state.  For me, it starts with the 3 C’s: Connections, Communication, and Consistency.  For any educational environment to be successful administrators, teachers, parents, students, classified staff, and community members all need to build connections.  We need a culture where we are invested in each other and show that we truly care and are there to support all.   Communication is crucial in providing clarity in purpose and vision. We must be on the same page so that Cactus Shadows students will leave our school and be able to adapt and succeed in all that they are faced with in the real world.  Finally, consistency in our messaging, procedures and performance must occur daily to allow us to achieve our goals for our students.   Again, I am so excited to be joining the Cactus Shadows family and become part of an already incredible school.  I understand that this is going to be a very unique school year but cannot wait to begin and I am able to meet everyone in person safely.  Let’s Go Falcons!!
