Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Elementary Education Teacher Certification
Mrs. Kristi Hiner
I am excited about starting my teaching journey in the 6th grade this year. This will be my first year teaching, and my third year working at Lone Mountain Elementary. I worked in hospitality for ten years in some of the amazing resorts in the Phoenix area. I left that field to focus on my family and am now excited about starting my second career as a teacher. I started substitute teaching at my kids' schools when my youngest started Kindergarten. In addition to substitute teaching, I also spent two years as a paraprofessional in special education working with 5th and 6th grade students in the resource classroom here at Lone Mountain. This position is where I discovered my passion for education and led me to enroll in a program that enabled me to recently become a state certified teacher.
I have been married for 13 years and have two children. My daughter is 12 years old and my son is 10 years old. Outside of work, I enjoy going to all of my kids' sporting events and other various activities they do. If I have some down time, I like to work on jigsaw puzzles. I am looking forward to a great year together.
Educational Philosophy
-
I believe that students learn best when they feel comfortable in their learning environment, are engaged in what they are learning, and see purpose to what they are learning. My goal is to encourage students to express themselves and be respectful to others in the classroom. I also believe it is important to connect what students are learning to real world situations.
